Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell dyscrasia sustained by the clonal proliferation of plasma cells within the bone marrow. MM is the second most common hematologic neoplasm and, despite the continuous effort to overcome this disease, it remains uncurable. Throughout the recent years, novel therapeutic targets have been investigated, leading to the development of novel treatments for MM patients. In the last 10 years, interest in the long non-coding RNA NEAT1 has grown significantly within the field of cancer, including MM. In this review we offer a panoramic view of the role of NEAT1 in MM, with a focus on its possible role as both a biomarker and therapeutic target.
