Vegetables are a rich source of vital vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre, and antioxidants. The increasing global demand for vegetables, driven by health consciousness, urbanisation, and lifestyle changes, has heightened attention on the bacteriological quality of salads. This study examines the public health implications of microbial contamination in vegetable salads, which harbour foodborne pathogens like Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli O157, posing significant health risks. The assessment focuses on identifying contamination sources across the various phases of vegetable production and distribution, highlighting the need to implement strict food safety procedures. Implementing good agricultural practices, good manufacturing practices, and robust food safety monitoring systems, and quality management. This review emphasises the importance of implementing robust safety measures to ensure the consumption of fresh vegetables without any health risks. Examining existing information on the bacteriological quality of vegetable salads and the potential health hazards they pose emphasises the need for robust safety protocols. Ultimately, this is crucial for safeguarding public health and promoting the global benefits of a healthy diet.
