The contribution addresses the quaestio related to the definition of the expressions domum ducere and suo usu ducere in order to understand the meaning of a provision of a lex censoria of the portus Siciliae. Alfenus focuses above all on the second expression, to define the category of servi usus sui causa parati. His starting point is a jurisprudential precedent on the matter of argentum usus sui causa paratum. The solution proposed by the jurist offers an interesting example of constructing a criterion for identifying a new legal category.
