In the first part of the article, the complex events surrounding the foundation of the Church of Santa Maria in San Felice del Benaco – donated to the Carmelite Congregation of Mantua by the municipality in 1469 to establish a convent – are reconsidered, based on new documents and the stratigraphy of architecture and frescoes. The second part examines, again based on unpublished documents, reconstruction and restoration work from the second half of the last century, when the convent was reestablished, after being suppressed by the Venetian Republic in 1770. In both phases, the focus is on structural interventions in relation to seismic damage, either real or presumed. Keywords: Santa Maria del Carmine in San Felice del Benaco, Archaeology of architecture, Architectural Restoration, seismic damage.
