The paper focuses on some of the main aspects of the long campaign of restorations that since the 1870s affected the Palazzo del Broletto in Brescia, prompted by the growing interest of local administration in the recovery of the city’s mediaeval features. Particular attention is paid to the projects and works carried out in the first two decades of the 20th century by the Brescian engineer Giovanni Tagliaferri, who defined the overall romanesque-gothic image of the building, still evident today, starting from the functional need to modernise the interiors.

Abstract

The paper focuses on some of the main aspects of the long campaign of restorations that since the 1870s affected the Palazzo del Broletto in Brescia, prompted by the growing interest of local administration in the recovery of the city’s mediaeval features. Particular attention is paid to the projects and works carried out in the first two decades of the 20th century by the Brescian engineer Giovanni Tagliaferri, who defined the overall romanesque-gothic image of the building, still evident today, starting from the functional need to modernise the interiors.
