The paper reports the results of the PROFILES project, which aimed at investigating and highlighting the possible relationship between the dynamics of the zero-flux plane and the distribution of metal elements along soil profiles in a site exposed to airborne emissions from anthropogenic activities. The study is conducted in an analytical, numerical and experimental perspective, combining hydrological, meteorological and geostatistical approaches. The fair agreement between the metal profile and the simulated distribution of the zero-flux plane depth is an encouraging result which deserves further investigation.

Abstract
