The notion of topologically fractionable circuit components is defined and discussed using the paradigm of the behavioral approach. It sheds new light on the well-known (but often badly grasped) distinction between multi-terminal components and multi-ports, because it places the matter into a much more general and meaningful framework. For the sake of completeness, the notion of electrically fractionable circuit components is also defined and discussed.
