The main aim of this research is a re-reading of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento from different perspectives and at different speeds. The proposed method is based on the possible relationships between archaeology, landscape, infrastructures, in order to enhance the existing landscape. In order to enhance the Valley, the Archaeological Park could be reinterpreted as an archaeological infrastructural link between the current urban core of Agrigento and the neighbouring cities. Each element of the Valley could become one of the pieces of a single system that we could call archaeo-infrastructure, where the heart of a new Akragas could once again pulsate throughout the year. The territory of Agrigento is characterised by the presence of five urban settlements inhabited daily by the people of Agrigento as if they were a single city. The five towns (Agrigento, Villaggio Mosè, San Leone, Porto Empedocle and Villa Seta) are linked by a system of oversized carriageable roads which, paradoxically, does not allow for fast connections and confuses users by diluting the crossing. The Valley is a place full of contradictions, due to the 20th century urban contaminations and the way it is currently inhabited. This study experiments with the possible inclusion of these dissociations to transform them into positive components, imagining a distant future where our great-grandchildren will treat both the Temples and the Morandi Viaduct with equal respect and care.
