La Rotonda a Brescia: il rilievo del sarcofago di Berardo Maggi.

The architectural survey (with drawings and sketches) of the sarcophagus of bishop Berardo Maggi, preserved in the Old Cathedral of Brescia, allows the verification of certain key technical data in the execution of the workshop of the sculptor. This work allows to analyse the highly refined techniques, used by lapicides, the choice of perspective and the constructive system in function of the vision on the part of the faithful, both from the hall of the basilica and from the ambulatory. The architectural survey of the columns of the high altar also shows the original structure of the monument, the problems associated with the static and the choice of the materials. These data confirm the exceptional nature of the monument, which remained unfinished, and the episcopal patronage that generated it.
