We discuss the amplification effect of peak discharge in partial dam break scenarios with respect to Ritter’s solution at the breach section, providing a theoretical approach that accurately predict some experimental results observed by the Authors. Our result extends the applicability of the simplified estimation of the outflow hydrograph at the breach section beyond the case of a prismatic reservoir geometry.
