Abstract

Before any definition, any evaluation or any convention, the sense of landscape must come from a daily experience of reality, that express itself in different forms, in function of the users’ awareness level. On the basis of the Preamble of the European Landscape Convention (Florence, 20 October 2000), main theme of the course of Tecniche della Rappresentazione are the practice and development of students’ skill in catching peculiarities and history of a territory by means of natural and human elements. This approach to landscape analysis has been carrying on since years by professors and researchers in disciplines of ICAR-17, at Faculty of Engineering of University of Brescia. In the sequence of steps preceding the exploitation of cultural and natural heritage - acknowledgement, analysis, comprehension, preservation - our didactical experience firstly focuses on acknowledgement, because this is the primary battlefield in the war against a widespread incapability in regarding elements of daily landscape as cultural values. The so rare natural uncontaminated sites, almost a stereotype, are indeed, with a perhaps excessive trust, protected against negative actions which can spoil their semantic value. On the opposite, the daily environment is a place where we can find painful contradictions due to a lack of shared knowledge of its cultural and historical sense. Course’s purpose is to contribute to the sensitization and education of future technicians of landscape, as declared in Chap.2, art.6, sub.B “Training and education” of the European Landscape Convention, making them aware of the landscape variety and able to represent the proper elements of a wealth that is visible to everybody, but that is grasped by a few.
