The extractive, linear "take-make-waste" economy consumes over 100 billion tonnes of raw materials annually, contributing to climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion. With material demand projected to more than double by 2050, urgent transformation is needed. Material tracing, and in particular, Digital Product Passports (DPPs), emerged as promising tools to support circular business models and improve end-of-life management. However, existing approaches often lack integrated business strategies and still generate notable carbon footprints. This study addresses these shortcomings by proposing a Business Model Canvas specifically tailored for DPP-enabled material tracing, complemented by a SWOT analysis to evaluate its strategic viability in terms of circularity. The research aims to translate the technical potential of traceability systems into actionable, scalable, and sustainable solutions. The proposed framework provides strategic guidance for developing and implementing material tracing technologies by integrating economic value creation with environmental objectives, thereby supporting the European Green Deal and advancing the transition to a circular economy.
