The paper brings to light a long study-trip made by the architect of Brescia Antonio Tagliaferri to northern-central Europe in 1875, at the start of his success as a designer. The trip is attested by extensive archival documentation, completely unpublished, which enables to outline the general aspects of the tour and reconstruct it almost entirely, as well as to identify the main features of the experiential, cognitive and professional knowledge acquired by the Lombard architect throughout the itinerary.
