This study, part of the Gender Equality Plan of the University of Brescia, examines the nature and prevalence of LGBTQI+ stereotypes among students aged 20 and under, utilizing a comprehensive survey administered to a sample of over 600 participants. The research aims to identify the specific stereotypes that persist within this demographic and analyze how these beliefs influence young people's attitudes and behaviours toward the LGBTQI+ community. Participants were selected from various educational institutions, ensuring diverse backgrounds, including different socio-economic statuses and ethnicities. The survey, consisting of multiple-choice and Likert-scale questions, was designed to assess students' understanding and acceptance of LGBTQI+ identities and their exposure to and internalization of common stereotypes. The data gathered focused on several key areas: the association of certain behaviours and characteristics with LGBTQI+ individuals, beliefs about the "naturalness" of LGBTQI+ orientations, and assumptions about the social and emotional competencies of LGBTQI+ people. Preliminary findings indicate a significant correlation between the student’s gender, education, and aspiration to attend university and lower adherence to traditional stereotypes. However, results also show that misconceptions about LGBTQI+ people remain prevalent, with many students holding oversimplified or erroneous views that contribute to stigma and discrimination. This study aligns with the university's goals, aiming to advance knowledge and awareness of gender issues, which are crucial for creating a more equitable and diverse educational landscape. This study, in fact, highlights the critical role of education in combating LGBTQI+ stereotypes. It suggests that curricular integration of comprehensive, factual, and empathetic content about LGBTQI+ issues could significantly reduce misconceptions. The conclusion points towards the necessity for educational policymakers and stakeholders to foster an inclusive environment that supports understanding and respect among students, thereby promoting a more accepting society for LGBTQI+ individuals.

Abstract
The conclusion points towards the necessity for educational policymakers and stakeholders to foster an inclusive environment that supports understanding and respect among students, thereby promoting a more accepting society for LGBTQI+ individuals.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
