This paper illustrates the geometric and constructive analysis of one of the vaulting system of the nave bays of San Miguel church of in Segovia. The research was supported by a digital survey, as well as the study of the treatise by the church’s designer, Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón (1500-1577). The text, which he wrote and published posthumously in 1681, is a rare case of transposition of construction medieval Spanish rules of stone masons into the renewed spirit of the Renaissance. Following a laser scanner survey involving the hall and the extrados of the vaulted system, the central bay of the nave was reconstructed in a digital environment, with particular attention for defining the ribbed construction elements and the overlying filling surfaces. As a result of this reconstruction, it was possible to ideally associate the roofing element with a spherical vault on which four cylindrical vaults are set, with an ogival arch directrix. Since Gil’s treatise proposes on the one hand the sequence of site operations to set up the vault and on the other hand the proportional dimensioning of the main structural elements, these were measured and verified, finding a slight deviation between the actual data and that indicated in the manuscript.

Abstract
Since Gil’s treatise proposes on the one hand the sequence of site operations to set up the vault and on the other hand the proportional dimensioning of the main structural elements, these were measured and verified, finding a slight deviation between the actual data and that indicated in the manuscript.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
