The report introduces the concept of quality as applied to cultural heritage management. The quality of the intervention is given by the combination of many factors. Among them, the skills of the technicians in charge of carrying out their tasks represent an important variable. It is difficult to find numerical criteria to verify the project’s quality and restoration works carried out. The cultural richness of the heritage is such that the reduction to a synthetic judgment of a numerical nature risks diminishing even the restored work. There is no doubt that a holistic and articulated vision of the conservation process can help to realize a project and restoration of quality. The example presented in this contribution concerns the conservation work undertaken by the Diocese of Mantua. It is important to underline how the Diocese activates virtuous routes to find the economic funds necessary to begin the study of cultural heritage and continue the conservation process over time. Participation in calls for funding makes it necessary to prepare complete projects in the minimum documents and qualitatively exhaustive unless the funds are not received. A quality project is a prerequisite for funding even from additional sponsors (public and private) that, if well-coordinated, guarantees the funds for the continuity of care over time. The good realization of the work is verified before giving the last money by the competent bodies, responsible for these verifications.
