Abstract

The success of energy retrofit measures is closely linked to the users’ behavior. It is well known that phenomena such as the “performance gap” or the “rebound” effect can lead to a deviation of the expected performance of the building from a zero energy point of view even by many percentage points (+68% with respect to heating and about +53% with respect to electricity consumption). Understanding the use profile of buildings, the correlation between occupancy and internal gains, ventilation and set-point temperatures is therefore significant from the point of view of identifying thresholds of the uncertainty of the energy performance data. In addition, the occupancy flows that can be simulated in a virtual environment also allowing to provide a POE (pre-occupancy evaluation) that can give prior feedback on the actual result of possible efficiency strategies. The case study of the eLUX Lab UNIBS is used as a test.
