The essays in this publication have been produced on the occasion of seminars cured by the research group “Project Great War 2014-18. Analysis, recovery and design in the areas of Lombard frontline of the First World War from the Stelvio pass to Garda Lake”. In 2014, three seminars were hosted at the University of Brescia (25-26 February, 25-26 March, 10 June) including one international and one dedicated to the meeting between teachers and researchers, Italian and foreign, and representatives of public and private organizations, cultural associations and companies. Most of the papers presented during the three seminars have been included in this publication and represent one multi-indentitarian vision about the issue of rehabilitation of border areas and conflicts where traces, absences and continuity solutions continue to create remembrance phenomena of dense stories about still humans, perhaps, of new rebirths.

Abstract

Book printed with funds entrusted by the Eulo Foundation and ASM Gruppo A2A Foundation for the project “Invisible Architecture”, scientific responsible of the project Olivia Longo, D.I.C.A.T.A.M., Università degli Studi di Brescia. Book Series: Invisible Architecture Editor: Michele Sbacchi Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design Advisory Board: Oriel Prizeman, Senior Lecturer, Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University; Santiago Quesada-Garcia, Profesor Titular, Universidad de Sevilla; Federica Visconti, Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II; Koon Wee, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Architecture, The University of Hong Kong; Giacinto Cerviere, Oil Forest League Free School of Design and Environment This book series deals with scientific research in the fields of city, landscape and architecture within the current focus on reuse and conversion of built heritage. Special attention is placed on the sensible and inclusive aspect of architecture as far as it includes physical parts of context as well as immaterial aspect such as historical, antropological and sociological ones. These “invisible elements of architecture” are at the core of the book series. Consistently, key notions for this topic will be space-in-between, sublime, uncanny, and of course many others. These can help to understand some “experential” issues which are normally excluded from design development. The wide speculations of cultural anthropology and of phenomenolgy and existentialism set the ground for our approach.
