In this work, the optimization of vaned diffusers has been performed by means of genetic algorithms and numerical calculations. Static pressure recovery and total pressure loss have been chosen as objective functions. The multi-objective optimization problem has been reduced to a single-objective one by minimizing an equation which is the weighted sum of the two objective functions. The position of the vanes between the diffuser inlet and outlet, their inclination with respect to the radial direction at the leading and trailing edges and the vane number have been selected as design variables. All the optimized individuals, representing the solutions to three single-objective GA problems, show increased performance with respect to the baseline diffuser.
