The crack propagation problem for linear elastic fracture mechanics has been studied by some authors exploiting its analogy with plasticity theory. This approach is here further pursued, by noting that Stress Intensity Factors asymptotic expansion allows a Colonnetti's approach. As a consequence, a minimum variational formulation is obtained in terms of crack tip velocity. It is reminiscent of Ceradini's theorem for plasticity.

Abstract
